Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man crossing Avenida 115 near the Poliforum convention center died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a large truck.
The truck was stopped at the intersection of Avenida 115 and Juárez Avenue when it began moving just as the pedestrian was crossing the street. Due to the vehicle’s size and height, the driver did not see the man and ran over him. Witnesses alerted the driver, who stopped, but it was too late.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed the victim’s death. Authorities cordoned off the area pending the arrival of the State Prosecutor’s Office to remove the body.
Traffic in the area became chaotic due to lane closures on the major thoroughfare.
