Cancún, Quintana Roo — Mexican ska band Panteón Rococó celebrated three decades of music with an emotional sold-out concert in Cancún on Thursday, February 5, reaffirming their status as one of Latin America’s most beloved ska groups.
The performance at Plaza de Toros marked the continuation of the band’s 30th anniversary tour, which began in Mexico City in November 2025. The Cancún show had been postponed from September 2025 due to health issues affecting lead singer Dr. Shenka.
“The doctor told me that if I wanted to continue with my life and my thing, I should play sitting down, so that’s why there are chairs,” Dr. Shenka told the audience. “Welcome to the new normal of Panteón Rococó.”
The band opened with “Punk-O” from their album “Compañeros Musicales,” followed by “Asesinos” from 1999, launching a night that spanned three decades of musical history. The setlist included classics like “Ciudad Esperanza,” “Dime,” “Vendedora de caricias,” “Fugaz,” and “La Carencia,” alongside newer tracks from their 2025 album “Sonoro.”
Dr. Shenka acknowledged the passage of time reflected in the audience’s gray hair, children, and even grandchildren, celebrating that new generations continue to listen to music with social content and reality.
The energy grew with each song, prompting dancing, massive choruses, and the traditional slam that distinguishes concerts by this band, which formed in 1995 in northern Mexico City during a period marked by the Zapatista uprising and strong social consciousness.
After more than two hours of music, dancing, and communion, the night closed with “Arréglame el alma,” leaving the audience with palpable nostalgia and unanimous recognition of a powerful concert.
