Yucatán, Mexico — The government of Yucatán, led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, has signed a collaboration agreement with Grupo Oxxo, owned by the conglomerate Fomento Económico Mexicano (Femsa), to enhance security, support local producers, and assist law enforcement agencies in the state.

Under the program Ko´olel Salva, 175 Oxxo convenience stores will serve as safe spaces for women in distress. The initiative includes panic buttons connected to the C5 emergency response system, enabling immediate police intervention.

A Multifaceted Partnership for Safety and Economic Growth

Governor Díaz Mena, accompanied by Justo Alejandro Valencia Villela, Senior Regional Manager of Oxxo Yucatán, emphasized that the initiative reflects a broader vision of social development. “Yucatán is changing, and we are building a fairer, more prosperous state with equal opportunities—hand in hand with our citizens,” he stated.

The governor also acknowledged the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum, as well as key institutions such as the Secretariat of Women of Mexico City (SEMUJERES), the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSP), and the Yucatán Institute for Entrepreneurs (IYEM) in implementing Ko´olel Salva.

Salvador Vitelli Macías, Director of IYEM, outlined the program’s three pillars:

  • Dedicated store shelves for products from local entrepreneurs;
  • Installation of 176 panic buttons;
  • Free hydration and restroom access for police officers.

Sisely Burgos Cano, head of SEMUJERES, highlighted the program’s significance in combating gender-based violence. “Ko’olel Salva ensures safe spaces and immediate assistance for women facing dangerous situations,” she said.

Governor Díaz Mena concluded the event by recognizing Oxxo as a socially committed partner dedicated to improving citizens’ lives.
