Over 4,000 people are expected to participate in the 35 Stations of the Cross events in Playa del Carmen. These events, scheduled from April 13 to 19, are part of the Holy Week religious celebrations. Local authorities are currently finalizing the logistics and security arrangements for the events.
Leon Ballesteros Reyes, the head of the municipality's Religious Affairs Unit, explained that activities are planned from Palm Sunday to Holy Saturday. Given the significant number of participants, including children, coordination with the Transit Department and the local Civil Protection Secretariat is essential.
While many of the processions will only take place around the churches, some temporary street closures will be required. The most attended Stations of the Cross event is set for Good Friday. On this day, participants will walk from the church in the Luis Donaldo Colosio district to the Fundadores park.
In Puerto Aventuras, a large turnout is also expected. Organizers anticipate between 400 and 500 people will participate in their own representation of the Passion of Christ.
