Over 100 Emergency Shelters Activated for Cyclone in Quintana Roo

The Quintana Roo government, under the leadership of Mara Lezama Espinosa, has announced the activation of over 100 emergency shelters in preparation for the arrival of tropical cyclone "Nueve". These include three shelters specifically designated for pets. The shelters are spread across the 11 municipalities of Quintana Roo, with 27 in Benito Juárez (including one for pets), six in Puerto Morelos, six in Isla Mujeres, 14 in Solidaridad (including one for pets), 15 in Lázaro Cárdenas, three in Cozumel, seven in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, six in José María Morelos, 10 in Tulum (including one for pets), seven in Bacalar, and eight in Othón P. Blanco.

The governor also shared the locations of the pet shelters, which are set up to accommodate small dogs and cats. However, pets must be accompanied by their owners. In Lázaro Cárdenas, pets can be taken to CBTA 186, located at kilometer 33 Ideal-Chiquilá road. In Benito Juárez, the Ek Balam school is serving as a pet shelter, located in SM 247 block 33, Villas Otoch Third Stage. In Cozumel, the Conalep on licenciado Pedro Joaquín Coldwell, Independence Avenue and 65 Avenue with 31st Street, Maravilla neighborhood, is the designated pet shelter. At present, the cyclone alert status remains at blue, indicating minimal danger. According to Mara Lezama, the center of the cyclone is currently situated 160 kilometers southeast of Grand Cayman Island and 540 kilometers east of Punta Herrero, Quintana Roo. Tropical cyclone Nueve is expected to bring maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h, gusts of 75 km/h and move towards the north-northwest at 9 km/h towards the state's coasts. The cyclone is also predicted to cause intense rainfall, ranging from 75 to 150 millimeters in Quintana Roo, along with wind gusts of 40 to 60 km/h in parts of Yucatan.
