In the latest violent incident in Cancun, one person was killed and another wounded in a shooting at a restaurant bar in the city's Region 93. Local residents reported hearing gunshots, prompting authorities to respond to the scene on 104th street, between Talleres and 53rd.

Initial reports suggest that armed assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at the establishment, known as "Zarandeado", before fleeing the scene.

Local police were the first to arrive at the scene, securing the area ahead of the paramedics. Once the ambulance arrived, the medical team confirmed one fatality and one injury. The injured individual was immediately transported to the General Hospital of Cancun "Jesus Kumate" for emergency care.

Subsequently, representatives from the National Guard and the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) arrived to begin investigations. Employees of "Zarandeado" reported that earlier in the day, unknown individuals had left a note with a phone number, instructing them to make contact about a protection racket. This lead has been included in the ongoing investigation.

Forensic Medicine Service (Semefo) officials collected the remains of the deceased to perform a legal autopsy at the morgue. Notably, there are unconfirmed reports suggesting that the attackers may belong to a rival group of those who had demanded protection money, potentially sparking the violent encounter.

The exact motives behind this deadly incident are yet to be determined by the investigating authorities.
