Mexico City — According to a report from the "Bajo Reserva" column, authorities in the health sector continue to withhold information regarding the so-called Megafarmacia del Bienestar, a facility intended to resolve the country's medication shortage problem. Sources indicate that days, weeks, and months pass without any official updates.
This lack of information persisted even during the recent appearance before lawmakers by the heads of the health sector, led by Secretary David Kershenobich. When PRI member Ana Isabel González stated that the Megapharmacy had not been "sufficient" to solve the medication shortage and requested information, the response was a silence "the size of the 425,000-square-meter warehouse in Huehuetoca."
Officials, employing what the report calls the "brand of the house," blamed past policies for the severe problems currently facing the health sector. The report notes that these criticisms of the past do not target the previous presidential administration, during which the medication shortage reportedly skyrocketed.
Sheinbaum Presents Michoacán Security Plan
In other news, President Claudia Sheinbaum is scheduled to present the "Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice" at the National Palace, exactly one week after the murder of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo.
Sources indicate that the document will include several guidelines to confront insecurity in the state. However, as of yesterday afternoon, it was unknown whether municipal presidents, especially those from the regions most impacted by violence in the entity, would attend. Some mayors commented that they had not received a formal invitation, while others assured that they preferred not to appear too close to the federal spotlight for security reasons.
Sheinbaum's Electoral Messaging Begins
While Morena and its allies seek to align the 2027 elections with a recall referendum, sources note that President Claudia Sheinbaum yesterday delivered a message that has begun to warm up the electoral route. During a tour in Nayarit, the president warned that there are only two paths: returning to the corruption of the past or continuing to advance with the Fourth Transformation.
Sources comment that this expression "is not a coincidence" and will continue to be heard throughout the country as she resumes her public events with citizens. The report frames this as the start of the competition for the 2027 elections.
Mexican Politicians React to New York Mayor's Victory
The report also notes that in Mexico, it is not only Morena politicians seeking to capitalize on Zohran Mamdani's victory in the New York City mayoral race.
Jorge Álvarez Máynez, the leader of Movimiento Ciudadano, is described as being "fascinated" with the newly elected mayor. The report states that he does not miss an opportunity to retweet Mamdani's speeches, photos, and proclamations. It is suggested that Álvarez Máynez seems to want to reflect that narrative of a young left from his account on the social media platform X, as if both shared a cause. Critics see in his posts an attempt to replicate Mamdani's discourse in a Mexican context and to sell the progressive style of the New Yorker.
