Nissan tops 2025 Mexico auto sales, Chinese brands surge

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported that in 2025, there was a 1.3% increase in the commercialization of new cars compared to sales in 2024. The best-selling vehicle brand in Mexico was Nissan, with 274,461 units, representing growth of 7.6 percent.

The Japanese brand is followed by General Motors with 198,153 units, 3.4% less than the previous year. In third place was Volkswagen with 137,970 units sold, 0.2% less than in 2024.

Toyota closed 2025 with the placement of 126,358 vehicles, 3.6% more than the previous year; KIA commercialized 111,172 new cars, a growth of 6.5%; Mazda reached the placement of 107,004 units, 7.2% more than the previous year; and Stellantis sold 91,215 vehicles, 2.8% less than in 2024.

The Chinese Automotive Market

Among Chinese brands, Changan closed 2025 with the commercialization of 19,308 units, 184% more than in 2024.

Geely sold 22,258 vehicles, 237% more than in 2024; Great Wall Motor placed 15,336 units, 6.1% more than the previous year; Jetour Soueast sold 2,874 vehicles, 8.7% less than in 2024.

JAC, the only Chinese brand with manufacturing in Mexico, commercialized 24,445 vehicles, a slight drop of 1.5% compared to 2024.

For its part, MG placed 48,816 units, 19% less than in 2024.

Motornation closed the year with the placement of 2,680 vehicles, 27% less than in 2024.

Luxury Cars

Among luxury brands, BMW closed last year with the placement of 18,953 units, a growth of 9% compared to 2024.

Mercedes-Benz sold 10,663 vehicles, 17.4% less; Audi placed 9,232 units, 12% less; Volvo commercialized 5,915 vehicles, 16.7% less; and Acura retreated 28% in sales.

The automotive industry closed 2025 with the commercialization of 1,524,583 new cars. The sale of new light vehicles in December was 154,395 units, 5% more compared to December 2024.
