Tulum, Quintana Roo — A fierce overnight fire destroyed the restaurant at Vagalume and an adjacent business located at kilometer 7.5 of the Boca Paila highway in Tulum’s hotel district. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident caused alarm among nearby workers and residents.
Rapid Spread and Emergency Response
The blaze was reported around 4:00 a.m. by passersby and local workers. Within minutes, firefighters, civil protection personnel, and municipal police arrived at the scene, where the flames had already spread significantly.
Both establishments were nearly completely destroyed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, with potential factors including an electrical short circuit, human error, or even possible arson. Witnesses reported that the flames reached considerable heights and were visible from the beach. The incident has underscored the urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations in Tulum’s coastal businesses. The community awaits answers and concrete actions to prevent future tragedies.
