Cancún, MX. – Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced that the Nichupté Bridge is practically finished, with progress exceeding 92 percent, and estimated that by the end of January 2026 it will be opened to the public for completely free use.
The state executive highlighted that this emblematic work of the government of the Fourth Transformation responds to a historical demand from Cancún residents, as well as the tourism and hotel sector, by offering a substantial improvement in mobility and significant savings in travel times to the hotel zone and homes, which will allow for a better quality of life and family coexistence.
The Governor explained that the Nichupté Bridge shows 98.5 percent progress at the Colosio junction, 98.3 percent in the land area, 95.6 percent in the large metal arch, 91.8 percent in the lagoon area, and 79.3 percent at the Kukulcán Boulevard junction.
“It is an 8.8-kilometer-long bridge that, together with its junctions, exceeds 11 kilometers, and will have three traffic lanes,” emphasized Mara Lezama.
She also noted that the work has not caused damage to the lagoon, as during its construction state-of-the-art technology has been applied to guarantee respect for the natural environment of the lagoon system.
“In 2026, vehicular flow in our beautiful hotel zone will improve significantly and we will be able to save more than 45 minutes in travel times. This will greatly benefit our visitors, as well as workers and citizens in general,” reiterated the Governor.
The Governor of Quintana Roo reported that, for the construction of the bridge, more than 93 machines of different characteristics have been used.
Mara Lezama stated that this type of large-scale public infrastructure works generate shared prosperity, as established by the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo.
“The governments of the Fourth Transformation are distinguished by transforming with a long-term vision, by working for the well-being of current and future generations,” she emphasized.
The Nichupté Bridge will have a significant impact on the population and its construction adds to the modernization of Cancún, promoting orderly and sustainable growth.
Finally, Governor Mara Lezama emphasized that the use of the Nichupté Bridge will have no cost for the population or visitors, so the dissemination of information indicating a supposed charge for its use is completely false. (Source: Government of Quintana Roo)
