CANCÚN — The construction of the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, considered the most important mobility project in Cancún, has reached a global completion rate of over 90 percent, according to the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT).
The project, which formally began in 2022, is progressing steadily with the support of the federal government and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The federal agency reported that hundreds of foundation piles, columns, and road spans have already been constructed, forming the structure that will directly connect the hotel zone with the Colosio Boulevard and the urban center.
The most notable reported advancements are:
- Colosio Interchange: 97.2 percent
- Land Zone: 98.1 percent
- Top Down Zone: 98 percent
- Metallic Arch Bridge: 94.4 percent
- Lagoon Zone: 88.3 percent
- Kukulcán Interchange: 72.6 percent
As part of the final work phases, the SICT announced that the Cancún–Airport bound lanes of Kukulcán Boulevard, between kilometers 12+500 and 13+500, have been closed since Sunday, November 9, 2025, to allow for connection work between the bridge and the main roadway.
The project, whose objective is to improve connectivity, reduce travel times, and reinforce safety during emergencies and natural phenomena, aims to benefit both workers in the tourism sector and the millions of visitors who arrive annually at the destination.
The Nichupté Bridge is part of the strategic infrastructure package promoted by the federal government in Quintana Roo, and its completion will represent a structural change in the mobility of the Cancún metropolitan area.
