Quintana Roo, Mexico — Seven new schools being built in three municipalities of the state are expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2026, with an investment of over 300 million pesos.
Aldo Andrés Castro Jiménez, general director of the Institute of Educational Physical Infrastructure of the State of Quintana Roo (Ifeqroo), reported that in the municipality of Playa del Carmen, a preschool, an elementary school, and a middle school are under construction in the El Edén neighborhood, as well as an elementary school in Puerto Aventuras; in Benito Juárez, a Center for Industrial and Services Technological High School (Cbtis) number 301 and a middle school in Villas Lak’in, in Cancún, are being built; and in Othón P. Blanco, the Center for Teacher Updating is under construction in Chetumal.
He indicated that for the remainder of the current state administration, efforts will be intensified to create new educational spaces at all levels in the state, with priority given to municipalities with the highest demand due to increases in school enrollment.
During the current state administration, nearly 300 million pesos have been allocated for the construction of new educational spaces at the basic and higher levels in Quintana Roo.
The nearly 30 million pesos were allocated for new schools, classrooms, laboratories, workshops, annexes, and complementary works in the 11 municipalities of the state.
According to reports from the Institute of Educational Physical Infrastructure of the State of Quintana Roo (Ifeqroo), in the first three years of the administration led by Governor Mara Lezama, in Quintana Roo, 13 new schools, 53 classrooms, three laboratories, two workshops, 127 annexes were built, and 34 basic services were carried out, which are works that complement the operation of the campuses, such as walkways, walls, sidewalks, and connections, benefiting more than 1,927,000 students.
At the basic level (special education, preschool, elementary, and middle school), 11 new schools, 44 classrooms, two laboratories, two workshops, 99 annexes, and 27 basic services were built, while at the higher level, two new schools, nine classrooms, one laboratory, 28 annexes, and seven basic services were constructed.
