The Mayor of Telchac Puerto, Alfredo Marrufo Díaz, has unveiled plans for a new tourist attraction – a sculpture of the Mayan god Chaac. This project comes in the wake of controversy surrounding the installation of a Poseidon sculpture and the aftermath of Hurricane "Beryl".

Mayor Marrufo Díaz has confirmed that the Chaac sculpture will be made from fiberglass and is set to be unveiled to the public on August 18. This addition will complement a series of artistic and cultural installations that have been introduced during Marrufo Díaz's tenure. These include a giant grouper fish at the entrance to the boardwalk, dolphins and turtles on the pier, and a sandal in the food area.

In contrast to the Poseidon sculpture, which was installed in the sea, the new Chaac figure will be situated on the beach. This placement will allow visitors to appreciate the artwork in a more accessible setting.

Mayor Marrufo Díaz emphasized that this new attraction will not only enhance the port's tourism offerings but will also pay homage to the region's rich cultural heritage. This move aims to strengthen the appeal of Progreso as a tourist destination of interest.
