Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — A proposed beach club development in Puerto Morelos has entered a public consultation phase after Mexico’s environmental agency completed its initial review of the project’s environmental impact assessment.
The project, called “Club 8,” would be built on coastal land reclaimed from the sea adjacent to Lot 01 of Block 06, Superblock 02. The total site area measures 761 square meters, with developers estimating one year for site preparation and construction, followed by a 30-year operational period.
Project Details
According to documentation submitted to environmental authorities, the development would include:
- A thatched-roof structure for kitchen and bar facilities
- Restroom modules
- Outdoor tables, chairs, lounge chairs, and movable umbrellas
The goal is to provide food and beverage services to visitors along Puerto Morelos’ coastal strip.
Location and Environmental Regulation
The property falls within Environmental Management Unit 28, designated as the Puerto Morelos Population Center under current ecological planning instruments. The site lies outside officially decreed polygons in Quintana Roo’s Urban Development Programs.
Environmental Impact Assessment
The environmental impact statement indicates the project would not generate significant or relevant environmental impacts, meaning:
- No destruction of ecosystems
- No effect on strategic natural resources
- No compromise of ecological processes
The technical document states the property currently lacks vegetation and has minimal wildlife adapted to previously disturbed environments. The surrounding landscape is described as predominantly tourist-oriented and human-modified due to existing coastal developments. Developers argue the new club would visually integrate with the existing environment.
