Cancún, Quintana Roo — The second edition of the National Corn Fair concluded with overwhelming success, drawing over 10,000 attendees and solidifying its place as one of the region’s most significant cultural and gastronomic gatherings. Held on July 12 and 13 at the iconic Malecón Tajamar, the event became a vibrant tribute to Mexican culture, supported by Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta and the Institute of Culture and the Arts (ICA).
A Celebration of Tradition and Flavor
From its inauguration, the festive atmosphere was unmistakable, transforming the Malecón into a lively Mexican fair. Attendees explored a variety of stalls offering handicrafts, natural products, and goods crafted by local entrepreneurs, all showcasing the region’s cultural richness.
Yet, the true star of the event was corn, which took center stage in a dedicated gastronomic pavilion. Visitors indulged in traditional dishes such as tamales, tacos, pozole, and cornbread, among other delicacies.
A Showcase of Local Talent
The artistic program was another highlight of the fair. The main stage came alive with music and dance, featuring performances by talented local groups, including the folkloric ballet of the Polytechnic University of Quintana Roo and renowned singers Irán Ramírez and Blanca Rocabado. Their vibrant acts captivated the audience.
A Commitment to Cultural Identity
The municipal administration reaffirmed its dedication to promoting Cancún’s cultural identity and fostering family-friendly spaces. With this goal in mind, preparations are already underway for the next celebration: Picaferia, la fiesta del chile (The Chili Festival), set to take place in September. The event will pay homage to the bold, spicy flavors of Mexican cuisine.
Through initiatives like the National Corn Fair, Cancún is positioning itself not only as a premier tourist destination but also as a hub of culture and tradition, celebrating diversity and uplifting local talent.
