Cancún, Quintana Roo — A serious traffic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Manzano Street and Los Tules Avenue in the Villas Otoch subdivision, leaving at least eight people injured, though none sustained serious wounds.
According to initial reports from authorities, the incident happened when the driver of a sand-colored Nissan X-Trail van exited Manzana private street and attempted to merge onto Los Tules Avenue without taking proper precautions, invading the preferential traffic lane.
At that moment, a public transportation van, belonging to the TTE company with economic number 368, was traveling on that avenue. The impact was inevitable and caused the van operator to lose control of the vehicle.
As a result of the strong collision, the public transportation unit jumped the central median and ended up crashing into a taxi traveling in the opposite direction, creating a large-scale scene that alarmed neighbors and motorists in the area.
Following the accident, at least eight people were reported injured, including passengers from the van and occupants of the involved vehicles. Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross, as well as private ambulances, immediately arrived at the scene to provide pre-hospital care to the injured. Although no serious injuries were reported, some passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for more detailed medical evaluation and to rule out possible complications.
Municipal Transit officers arrived at the site to take note of the events, carry out corresponding procedures, and determine responsibilities. They also implemented an operation to control vehicular traffic, as circulation was severely affected for several minutes.
The accident generated an intense mobilization of emergency services and drew the attention of dozens of neighbors, who approached to observe what had occurred.
