Cozumel, Quintana Roo — MSC Cruises conducted a recruitment drive on the island of Cozumel this week, seeking local talent to join its international cruise ship crews. Company representative Virginia Grimaldi highlighted Mexico’s strategic importance for the cruise industry, noting Cozumel’s experience in serving cruise passengers.
Grimaldi explained that MSC is looking for professionals in hospitality, customer service, and hotel operations, describing cruise ships as “floating hotels” at sea. Available positions range from reception and food and beverage service to maintenance and entertainment, all focused on ensuring passenger experience quality.
“Working on a cruise ship is more than just a job—it’s a lifestyle change,” Grimaldi said during the presentation. She noted that contracts typically involve eight months onboard followed by two to three months of leave at home, creating opportunities to visit different countries and cultures while building a tourism career.
During the Cozumel event, MSC showed videos and testimonials from current crew members to help attendees understand working conditions and growth opportunities. Grimaldi reported that many participants who arrived with questions left convinced and submitted applications.
While acknowledging that Mexico doesn’t yet have a strong maritime culture, Grimaldi emphasized that the quality of local personnel and Cozumel’s proximity to the cruise industry make it an ideal recruitment location. She confirmed the island will remain a regular destination for future company visits given community interest.
