Political Party Logos Misused in Cancún Fireworks Incident

Vehicle with Movimiento Ciudadano logos allegedly involved in fireworks distribution in Cancún

Cancún, Mexico — The municipal leadership of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) in Cancún issued a public disclaimer after images circulated on social media and some news outlets showing a vehicle with party logos allegedly involved in fireworks distribution at various points in the city.

According to circulating information, the vehicle was reportedly seen making rounds in recent days, causing confusion among citizens due to the visible presence of party emblems in an activity restricted for security reasons.

In response, the Municipal Operational Commission of MC denied any connection to the sale or distribution of fireworks and warned that the identified vehicle does not belong to or is linked to the party, suggesting it constitutes improper use of their institutional image.

Jesús Hernández, Communications Spokesperson for MC in Cancún, stated that the party does not participate in or endorse activities related to fireworks, and that the use of their symbols in this context could generate misinformation and alarm, especially during the holiday season when risks from handling explosive devices increase.

He indicated that the case has been referred to the Legal Affairs department to clarify responsibilities and prevent third parties from using the party’s name or logos for activities outside the law.

Municipal authorities have reiterated that the sale and use of fireworks without permits poses a risk to the population, particularly children, the elderly, and pets, and have urged citizens not to purchase or handle these products and to report any irregular activity to emergency number 911.
