Cancún, Quintana Roo — Mototaxi drivers in Cancún’s Paseos del Mar neighborhood organized Friday morning and cornered two alleged thieves who had been repeatedly stealing their work vehicles, with police intervening to prevent a lynching.
The drivers coordinated to locate one of their stolen vehicles using a GPS tracking device. They surprised one suspect inside the stolen mototaxi and struck him as punishment.
To avoid further aggression, the detained man revealed the location of his accomplice, who was hiding on the rooftop of a residential building. The mototaxi drivers then cornered him on the rooftop, creating tense moments due to the risk of a fall.
Municipal police officers from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Traffic intervened to control the situation and arrested both suspects.
The mototaxi operators urged their colleagues to file formal complaints about the multiple robberies they have suffered in recent days.
