Fatal Crash at Cancún Intersection Leaves One Dead

Scene of the traffic accident at El Crucero intersection in Cancún

Cancún, Mexico — A tragic traffic accident occurred Monday night in Cancún’s Supermanzana 63, on José López Portillo Avenue, resulting in one fatality and two injured individuals. The incident took place at the area known as El Crucero, one of the city’s busiest vehicular and pedestrian intersections.

According to initial reports, two young women were traveling on a black Pulsar NS200 motorcycle along López Portillo Avenue toward Uxmal Avenue. Upon reaching the intersection with Torcasita Avenue, they allegedly attempted to cross the roadway at excessive speed, which reportedly caused the fatal outcome.

Witnesses gave conflicting accounts regarding the traffic signal, with some stating the motorcyclists crossed on a red light while others claimed the light was green. However, they agreed the motorcycle was traveling at high speed.

Pedestrian Loses Life After Impact

As they entered the side lane of José López Portillo Avenue, the motorcyclists struck a female pedestrian crossing the roadway. The victim was violently hit and thrown approximately 20 meters, losing her life instantly due to the severity of her injuries. Paramedics confirmed she showed no vital signs.

Following the impact, the motorcycle occupants also sustained injuries. One was transported emergently to a hospital, where her condition was reported as serious, while the second young woman received medical attention at the scene.

Municipal Transit officers cordoned off the area to conduct corresponding procedures and determine liability. Traffic remained partially closed while awaiting the Forensic Medical Service.
