Motorcycle Couple Hit by Truck on Tulum-Cobá Highway

Motorcycle accident scene on Tulum-Cobá highway showing injured victims and damaged vehicles

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A couple traveling on a motorcycle was struck head-on by a white pickup truck on the Tulum–Cobá highway near the Atik cenote, leaving the woman trapped beneath the vehicle and the man injured on the pavement.

According to witnesses, the pickup truck driver allegedly lost control and crossed into the opposite lane just as the motorcycle was approaching in the opposite direction. The impact was direct and violent: the motorcycle became embedded under the truck’s front bumper while both occupants were thrown from the vehicle.

In circulated images, the motorcyclist is seen lying on the asphalt, still wearing his helmet with visible injuries to one of his legs. His shoes show blood stains, and motorcycle parts remain scattered around the area.

The most critical situation involves the young woman who was accompanying him, who became completely trapped beneath the pickup truck along with the remains of the light vehicle.

The motorcycle collapsed under the front fascia, and a significant oil or fuel spill is visible around the area. The woman remains motionless while local residents, visitors, and bystanders attempt to provide assistance without being able to move the vehicle due to the risk.

Neighbors, local first aid personnel, and volunteer rescuers approached to try to stabilize the injured while ambulances and specialized rescue teams arrived. The highway became partially obstructed, with traffic reduced to a single lane due to stopped vehicles and people assisting the injured couple.

Public Security elements cordoned off the area to allow paramedics and vehicle rescue teams to work. Forensic experts began procedures to determine how the impact occurred and establish corresponding responsibilities.

At this time, the health status of the trapped woman and the injured young man has not been reported. Authorities continue to call for extreme caution on this highway section, where accidents tend to increase due to lane invasions and speeding.
