Cancún, Quintana Roo — Morena will lead the alliance with the Green Ecologist Party and the Labor Party (PT) in the 2027 elections in Quintana Roo, the party’s state leader announced on Wednesday, citing its stronger polling numbers within the ruling coalition known as the Fourth Transformation (4T).
Johana Acosta Conrado made the announcement during a press conference at a hotel in Cancun, accompanied by local party officials including state deputy Jorge Sanén Cervantes. She stated that the coalition’s candidate for governor must be a member of Morena, often referred to as the “guinda” or burgundy party.
Acosta noted that the gender of the candidate has not yet been determined, as it will depend on guidelines set by a yet-to-be-formed Elections Commission. “The Elections Commission is responsible for laying out the rules for the internal process. That’s the first step we need to take,” she explained.
She added that once the commission is established, it will select polling firms to help choose a candidate based on support among party members. Acosta expects the national Morena council to set dates for forming the state commission by the end of this month or early next.
The candidate should be selected before the end of the first half of this year, Acosta emphasized, reiterating that Morena will head the alliance due to its higher public approval compared to its partners.
“Morena will lead the cause; it is the party with the greatest strength historically, having received many more votes than our allies in recent periods. Therefore, Morena heads this alliance, and the candidate must be affiliated with our movement,” she said.
When asked, Acosta clarified that politicians such as Senator Eugenio Segura and Ana Paty Peralta, president of Benito Juárez municipality, are no longer part of the Green Party and can therefore participate in the candidate selection process without issue.
