Morena Lawmaker in Quintana Roo Criticized for Lack of Legislative Initiatives

César Santiago Augusto Frías Canché, a Morena party legislator in Quintana Roo

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A Morena party legislator in Quintana Roo faces criticism for his minimal legislative activity and lack of independent initiatives, despite receiving a full salary and benefits.

César Santiago Augusto Frías Canché, a deputy in the state’s XVIII Legislature, has not presented any initiatives of his own. He has only co-sponsored three proposals with his Morena party colleagues and maintains near-zero attendance at legislative sessions.

Frías Canché serves as president of the Anti-Corruption and Citizen Participation Commission, a role described as equally inactive. He represents District VII and assumed office in October 2025 as a substitute for Eric Arcila Arjona.

Despite his limited participation, he receives a monthly salary of 61,646.94 pesos, along with resources for his constituency office, fuel vouchers, travel allowances for district tours, and other benefits.

Before entering politics, Frías Canché worked as a pharmacy assistant at the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and as general director of the Municipal Youth Institute in Benito Juárez. Critics say his performance as a legislator has been disappointing.
