In honor of World Breastfeeding Week, which is observed annually from August 1st to 7th, the municipal government, under the leadership of President Lili Campos, has partnered with the program "Closing the Gap: Support for Breastfeeding for All."
This global campaign is spearheaded by the Global Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The joint initiative aims to enhance measures that protect, promote, and support the right to breastfeed across the Americas.
The Ministry of Health, through its nutrition coordination, has rolled out a program that includes a range of talks and workshops on breastfeeding. Topics include debunking myths and realities of breastfeeding, discussing breast milk substitutes, and promoting breastfeeding in waiting rooms. These events will be held in the five Primary Health Care Centers (CAPS) located in the neighborhoods of El Petén, July 28th, Villas del Sol, Colosio, and Puerto Aventuras. The goal is to raise awareness and encourage actions that support breastfeeding.
Additionally, a special event will be hosted for the staff at the Hotel Mahekal Bech Resort. This will include discussions on how working mothers can manage breastfeeding and techniques for successful latch-on. There will also be informational booths covering a variety of topics such as milk banking, nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding, correct latch-on techniques, myths and realities of breastfeeding, breast milk substitutes, and dental care for infants.
