Mexican swimmer, Miguel de Lara, finished second in Series 2 of the 100 meters men's breaststroke at the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, after exiting the pool, he was shocked to discover his disqualification. Underwater cameras detected a kick movement that did not align with the breaststroke style.
"I felt fine, but I don't understand why I was disqualified. I've been swimming since I was 12 and this has never happened to me before," said de Lara. The disqualification occurred during his participation in heat 2 of the Olympic competition. Despite the setback, he is now focusing on his next race, hoping to overcome the day's disappointments.
De Lara described a challenging stay at the Olympic Village, citing issues like poor sleep due to mosquitoes. "I've had to sleep with the window open. I have bites on my face," he shared.
Despite the challenges, de Lara remains optimistic. He is confident about his upcoming performance in the 200 meters breaststroke on Tuesday, July 30. "These are my first Olympic Games and I have no point of comparison. We're all in the same boat and we just have to push through. I'm using this as a way to shake off the nerves. The 200 meters is a tough race, but we'll give it our all," he concluded.
