Mexico City, January 12, 2026. Mexico has received a Guinness World Record for organizing the largest Embroidery and Weaving Exhibition in the world, a recognition that highlights the country’s cultural richness and the strength of its artisan communities.
The certification, granted by Guinness World Records, officially validated 3,106 textile pieces created by artisans from all 32 states of the country, a figure that consolidated the achievement and projected Mexican textile heritage internationally.
The certifying judge Alfredo Arista confirmed the count during the ceremony at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex, where more than 200 creators gathered. The exhibition displayed a total of 3,809 pieces, although only the validated ones met the strict originality criteria required by Guinness.
The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, emphasized that the achievement belongs to the indigenous and rural communities that keep textile traditions alive. “Textile richness is culture, history, creativity, and national pride,” she stated. For her part, the Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, stressed that embroidery should be recognized as living heritage and a symbol of the country’s cultural diversity.
The presented designs include floral, geometric, and symbolic motifs that reflect the worldview of the original peoples. Each piece was made on 15 by 15 centimeter canvases, with threads of more than four colors and ancestral techniques such as pepenado, pedal loom, backstitch, cross-stitch with petatillo, chain stitch, cross-stitch, and drawn thread work.
The exhibition will remain open to the public at the Casa Miguel Alemán of the Los Pinos Cultural Complex until February 1, with hours from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.
