Mexico City — Mexico’s Education Ministry has moved up the end of the 2025-2026 school year to June 5, 2026, to accommodate the 2026 FIFA World Cup, officials announced Thursday.
Education Secretary Mario Delgado Carrillo, who led the 64th Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the National Council of Educational Authorities (CONAEDU), said the change applies to both public and private schools nationwide. The original end date was July 15.
Teachers will hold their final Technical School Council session on June 8, instead of May 29, and must submit official documentation to administrative offices by June 12.
For the next school year, Technical School Councils will take place August 10-14 to allow teachers to prepare. A learning reinforcement period for students will run from August 17-28, and the 2026-2027 school year will officially begin August 31, 2026.
Delgado said the adjustment ensures the curriculum is completed while addressing requests from states. He thanked teachers, principals, supervisors, and administrative staff for their cooperation, as well as parents for their support.
