The Government of Mexico has strongly condemned and rejected the United States’ attack on Venezuela, considering it a violation of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum disseminated the federal government’s official position against the bombings in Caracas, Venezuela, by US military elements.

The Mexican government urgently called for respect of the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.

“Based on its foreign policy principles and its pacifist vocation, Mexico urgently calls for respect of international law, as well as the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, and to cease any act of aggression against the Venezuelan government and people,” it stated.

Mexico urged the United Nations to act immediately to contribute to de-escalating tensions, facilitate dialogue, and generate conditions that allow for a peaceful, sustainable solution in accordance with international law.

The federal government warned that the attack on Venezuela seriously risks the stability of Latin America and the Caribbean, stating that the Latin American region “is a zone of peace, built on the basis of mutual respect.”

Mexico expressed that dialogue and negotiation are the only legitimate and effective ways to resolve existing differences, therefore reaffirming its willingness to support any effort to facilitate dialogue, mediation, or accompaniment that contributes to preserving regional peace and avoiding confrontation.

US President Donald Trump informed through his social media that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is in the custody of US military forces following several attacks in Caracas.
