Mexico City — The Senate of the Republic has begun reviewing legislation concerning cybersecurity and digital freedom of expression.
Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas stated that activities corresponding to these themes are being prepared for October to coincide with Cybersecurity Month. In addition to analyzing laws, roundtable discussions, courses, and training workshops on information security will be conducted.
In November, alongside activities such as discussion forums and training on digital rights, the General Law on Digital Rights will be reviewed.
Colosio Riojas indicated that three draft bills are also being prepared for initiatives to modify the national Cybersecurity Law.
For his part, Morena senator Eugenio Segura Vázquez considered it important to produce a document on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence topics derived from the aforementioned forums. The objective is for these topics to be included in the public consultations to review the USMCA, which are scheduled to take place in the coming months.
Furthermore, according to the commission's agenda, it is planned to reinforce legislation concerning the digital rights of users, security policies for children and adolescents on digital platforms, streaming services, as well as on mobile applications and social networks.
