Cancún, Mexico — The Mexican Navy (Semar) has initiated “Operation Lifeguard Summer 2025” as part of its broader Plan Marina strategy to safeguard both domestic and international tourists visiting Quintana Roo and other coastal destinations across the country.

The operation, which will run from July 11 to August 31, focuses on high-traffic beaches and tourist zones under the jurisdiction of the Mexican Navy. It is being conducted in coordination with Civil Protection agencies and authorities at the federal, state, and municipal levels.

Deployment of Personnel and Resources

A total of 2,323 naval personnel—including admirals, captains, officers, enlisted sailors, and civilian staff—have been mobilized for the operation. Additionally, 271 units will be deployed:

  • 23 ships for maritime surveillance
  • 97 smaller vessels for water rescues
  • 3 aircraft
  • 148 ground vehicles

The operation will involve 34 Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Stations—11 along the Gulf of Mexico and 23 on the Pacific coast—staffed with specialized personnel and supported by Naval Command units.

Training and Safety Measures

Naval personnel assigned to the operation have undergone training in search and rescue, diving, and hyperbaric medicine to provide timely emergency assistance. First aid stations will also be set up along beaches, staffed by lifeguards and naval medical personnel.

Public Safety Recommendations

The Navy issued the following safety guidelines for beachgoers:

  • Follow lifeguard instructions at all times.
  • Supervise children closely near the water.
  • Avoid entering the sea after consuming food, alcohol, or both.
  • Swim near emergency response teams when possible.

The operation aims to prevent accidents and ensure a safe summer season for tourists in Mexico’s coastal regions.
