Barcelona, Spain — Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro secured a decisive victory at the second edition of the Clàssica Terres de l’Ebre, held in Barcelona, Spain, on Monday. The 21-year-old rider from Ensenada, Baja California, extended his remarkable winning streak, marking his fifth triumph in just two weeks, including a recent victory at the Tour of Austria.
A Dominant Solo Breakaway
Del Toro launched a solo attack 33 kilometers from the finish line, leaving the peloton unable to match his pace. He completed the 185.8-kilometer route between the Observatori de l’Ebre in Roquetes and Tortosa in 4 hours, 23 minutes, and 58 seconds, averaging 42.2 km/h. His margin of victory was 46 seconds over Italian cyclist Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana), who finished second, while Britain’s Lukas Nerurkar (Education EF) claimed third place. The top Spanish finisher, Pau Miquel (Kern Pharma), placed fifth.
UAE Team Emirates Celebrates Historic Win
Del Toro’s team, UAE Team Emirates, celebrated the achievement on social media, calling it the “longest solo victory” of his career. The team’s official account stated: “Five wins in two weeks for Torito. The Clàssica Terres de l’Ebre saw the longest solo victory of Isaac del Toro’s career to date. Bringing home his 33km-long attack, there was no catching Isaac this afternoon!”
The post highlighted Del Toro’s aggressive move on the final climb, the Port de Pauls, which features gradients reaching 17%. Eritrean rider Natnael Tesfatsion (Movistar) briefly attempted to respond but could not close the gap.
A Rising Star’s Tenth Career Win
This victory marks Del Toro’s 10th career win, further solidifying his reputation as one of cycling’s most promising talents. His teammate, Spanish rider Igor Arrieta, set up the decisive attack before Del Toro surged ahead. Despite a chase group of eleven riders forming behind him, the Mexican extended his lead, crossing the finish line unchallenged.
The race for the remaining podium spots was fiercely contested, with Scaroni and Nerurkar emerging from the lead chase group. Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), winner of the event’s inaugural edition, was also among the pursuers but ultimately fell short.
