Mexican Caribbean Hotels Stay Over 80% Occupied

Cancún. Hotel occupancy in the main destinations of the Mexican Caribbean remained at levels above 80 percent during the last week, according to the weekly report issued this Monday by the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Tourism (Sedetur).

Riviera Maya Had the Highest Occupancy

According to the report corresponding to the period from January 17 to 23, 2026, destinations such as Cancún, Riviera Maya, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Costa Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos registered high tourist demand, consolidating the good start of the winter season in the state.

The report details that Cancún reached an average occupancy of 80.3 percent, while the Riviera Maya stood at 83.7 percent, placing it among the destinations with the highest influx of visitors in Quintana Roo during the analyzed week.

Meanwhile, Cozumel registered an occupancy of 81.8 percent, Isla Mujeres and Costa Mujeres reported 80.9 percent, and Puerto Morelos remained at 80 percent, reflecting solid performance of the tourism sector in the north of the state.

More Than 500,000 Visitors Arrived Last Week

According to Sedetur, during the week of January 17 to 23, the arrival of 538,593 tourists to the Mexican Caribbean was recorded, with a market composition led by visitors from the United States and Mexico, followed by Canada and European countries.

The state agency highlighted that these results reflect the air connectivity, hotel infrastructure, and diversification of the tourist offer in the different destinations of Quintana Roo.

Nearly 4,000 Air Operations Were Recorded

The weekly report also indicates significant airport movement, with more than 3,900 air operations at the airports of Cancún, Cozumel, Chetumal, and Tulum during the referenced period, as well as a constant flow of cruise ship arrivals in Cozumel and Mahahual.

Sedetur emphasized that the tourism indicators confirm the strength of the Mexican Caribbean as one of the most competitive destinations in the country, with positive expectations for the end of January.
