Cancún, Quintana Roo — An elderly woman was injured when a metal rod used as a clothesline at a temporary street vendor’s stall pierced her arm in the ‘El Crucero’ area of Cancún.
The stall, one of several selling patriotic merchandise, had a hanging rod that extended across the sidewalk on Tulum Avenue, in front of the Elektra store near Francisco I. Madero Avenue.
The woman, who was walking along the street, apparently did not see the rusty rod, which became embedded in her arm.
Civil protection paramedics responded to the scene but could not remove the embedded object. Firefighters then cut the rod, allowing paramedics to better access the wound and stop the bleeding.
The woman was bandaged and taken to a hospital for treatment.
