Mérida’s Christmas Festival: Caravans and Tree Lightings

Mérida, Yucatán — The magic of Christmas has arrived in the city with the “Mérida Brilla” festival, bringing Santa Claus, Mickey Mouse, and his friends to fill the city’s children with wonder and joy.

Amid Christmas hats, animated character costumes, and carols resonating throughout the Parque Ecológico del Poniente, Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada presented the program set to begin in December.

The “Mérida Brilla” festival will start on Sunday, November 30, and conclude on Tuesday, December 23.

Activities will take place at various points in the city: the north, south, east, and west of Mérida.

Activities of the “Mérida Brilla” Festival: Dates of Caravans and Tree Lightings

The first activity will be held this coming Sunday with the Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:00 p.m. at the “remate” of Paseo de Montejo.

On Monday, December 1, the lighting will take place at the Fraccionamiento del Parque at 7:30 p.m.

The Christmas atmosphere will continue on Tuesday, December 2, at Parque La Visita on Juan Pablo II, with the tree lighting at 6:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, December 3, there will be three activities: “Brilla la Plaza Grande” at 5:30 p.m.; “Brilla el Parque Las Américas” at 6:00 p.m.; and “Brilla la Colonia México” at 7:00 p.m.

On Thursday, December 4, a Christmas Caravan will pass through Parque San Carlos del Sur, Fraccionamiento Álamos del Sur, and Jardines del Sur at 5:30 p.m.

At 7:00 p.m., “Mérida Brilla” will arrive at Parque María Reina de la Paz in Emiliano Zapata Sur II.

Special Activities: Magic on Ice

On Friday, December 5, the activity will be at the Coca Cola tree with “Navidad en Acción” at 4:30 p.m., while the decoration lighting will take place at the Lucas de Gálvez market at 6:30 p.m.

The Christmas Caravan will pass through the Colonia Los Reyes on Saturday, December 6, at 5:30 p.m.; and at 7:00 p.m., Parque Amalia Solórzano will be illuminated. From 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the Christmas Night Bicycle Route will be held on Paseo de Montejo.

The season includes permanent attractions. From Sunday, December 7, to January 7, the “Magia sobre Hielo” activity will be available at 5:00 p.m. on Paseo de Montejo at Avenida Colón.

The San Cristóbal tree will be lit on Tuesday, December 9, at 6:00 p.m., and in La Arbolada, San Antonio Xluch III, at 6:30 p.m.

From Thursday, December 11, to Tuesday, December 23, Parque de la Paz will host “Navidad en el Parque de la Paz” at 8:00 p.m.

Events in Western Mérida

On December 11, there will be a Christmas Caravan in Opichén and the Fraccionamiento Diamante at 5:30 p.m., while “Mérida Brilla” will arrive at Parque El Porvenir at 6:00 p.m.

Additionally, from Saturday, December 13, to Tuesday, December 16, the Parque Ecológico del Poniente will present “Senderos de Magia y Luz” from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

On Monday, December 15, the Christmas Caravan will return, this time to the Colonia Díaz Ordaz, starting at 5:30 p.m., and the “Aliados para emprender” Bazaar will be set up at the Plaza Grande from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

From Friday, December 19, to Sunday, December 21, the Parque de Deportes Extremos will host “Navidad Extrema” at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, December 20, the Christmas Caravan will tour the comisarías of Xmatkuil, Dzununcán, and Santa Cruz Palomeque starting at 9:00 a.m.

Invitation to Celebrate Christmas in Mérida

The mayor emphasized that the festival’s spirit aims to strengthen community unity and affection for Mérida.

“Let’s embrace our city, enjoy, and generate community unity, which is the greatest strength that beautiful Mérida has,” she expressed.

At the end of the announcement, she asked, “Who wants toys?” and began distributing them among the children present. The event continued with the show by Mickey Mouse and his friends, as well as the participation of Morita.
