Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Health officials in Quintana Roo have launched a free measles vaccination campaign after confirming six cases in municipalities including Playa del Carmen, Chetumal, and Cancún.

The State Health Department (SESA) established vaccination modules across the state to offer free immunizations to residents with incomplete vaccination records. The campaign targets both children and adults as authorities work to prevent further spread of the disease.

Measles infections have increased alarmingly across Mexico in early 2026 due to two factors: tourists arriving with the disease and declining vaccination rates in recent years.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

Residents who should receive measles vaccines at the free modules or vaccination brigades include:

  • Children under 10 years old, particularly at 12 months (first dose), 18 months, or six years (second dose)
  • Children and adults aged 10 to 49 years
  • People who don’t remember if they were vaccinated or lack documentation
  • Those with incomplete vaccination schedules

Health officials emphasize the importance of vaccination, noting measles can be fatal for children and can affect people of any age.
