Quintana Roo, Mexico — Health authorities have confirmed four new measles cases in Quintana Roo within 24 hours, bringing the state’s total to six infections this year. The patients are hospitalized at the IMSS Bienestar hospital, with cases reported in Chetumal, Playa del Carmen, and Cancún, most involving minors.
The federal Health Department reported eight total infections between 2025 and 2026, prompting residents to seek vaccines at mobile clinics. José Orlando Alvarado Yaa, vice president of the Quintana Roo Medical College, urged coordinated action among health officials, medical professionals, and the public. “We must take steps to protect ourselves and reduce the impact of this highly contagious disease,” he said.
Unofficial reports indicate two of the cases involve a 24-year-old and a five-year-old who were hospitalized after traveling to Chiapas late last year. It remains unclear whether the patients have any family or social connection. In Cancún, the cases involve twins, while in Chetumal, two minors are affected.
The Quintana Roo Health Department has intensified preventive vaccination efforts with modules and macrocenters across the state. The vaccination campaign targets children aged six to 18 months, booster shots for six-year-olds, and unvaccinated individuals aged 10 to 49.
