Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, January 9, 2026 — Mayor Estefanía Mercado flagged off the indoor volleyball selection, in both men’s and women’s divisions, that will represent Playa del Carmen in the State Sports Games on the road to the CONADE 2026 National Olympics.

At the Poliforum of the Unidad Deportiva Playa del Carmen, accompanied by the director of the Sports Institute, Alberto López, athletes, coaches, and parents, the Mayor delivered a motivational message to the athletes, highlighting the honor and responsibility that comes with wearing the colors of Playa del Carmen in a state competition.

Estefanía Mercado emphasized that the municipality is one of the main sports references in Quintana Roo, being one of those that contributes the most medals to the state medal tally, a result of the permanent boost to sports and talent detection from formative categories.

During the event, she motivated the young athletes by reminding them that each competition is an opportunity to dream big and believe in their own potential. She made them see that representing their city is only the first step on a path that can lead them to defend the colors of the state and, eventually, the country, hearing the National Anthem as a symbol of pride and accomplished effort.

Likewise, she stressed that the real competition begins long before stepping onto the court, in mental, emotional, and physical preparation, and that the game never ends, because discipline, consistency, and passion transcend any score.

“You are there because you are the best of Playa del Carmen, which is why I urge you to go out onto the court with your heart, knowing that you represent all the girls, boys, and young athletes of the municipality,” highlighted the Municipal President.

“I am 100 percent sure that we are going to win,” she added.

For his part, Alberto López reported that in this state event, four municipal teams will participate, two men’s and two women’s, corresponding to the 2012–2013 and 2006–2007 categories, made up of 22 men and 24 women, accompanied by seven coaches and assistants.

With this flag-off, the municipal government reaffirms its alignment with the Municipal Development Plan, in the axis of Inclusive Government, promoting a physical and sports culture that strengthens the social fabric and projects Playa del Carmen as a seedbed of sports talent at the state and national level.
