Quintana Roo — The Mundo Maya alliance, comprising five southeastern Mexican states, has officially launched the Ixmukané 2026 initiative to select cultural ambassadors who will represent Maya heritage.
The program aims to choose one “Maya grandmother voice” from each participating state—Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatán, and Tabasco—to serve as cultural representatives and ambassadors for the region.
Andrés Aguilar Becerril, Undersecretary of Planning and Tourism Development for Quintana Roo’s Tourism Ministry, announced that registration will remain open from March 20 to April 20. The central objective is to highlight Maya cosmology, respect for ancestors, and balance with nature.
The initiative invites women who are native to or residents of the five states to participate. Once selected, the representatives will lead promotional campaigns and participate in various cultural forums.
The name Ixmukané holds deep significance in Maya tradition. In the sacred book Popol Vuh, Ixmukané is the creator goddess and grandmother who formed the “Men of Maize.” She is directly associated with Mother Earth and the continuity of life in Maya culture.
Interested applicants should consult the complete guidelines through official channels for participation requirements and submission details.
