Maya Train passengers stranded in Chetumal after cancellations

Maya Train at Chetumal station with passengers waiting

Chetumal, Mexico – Despite the promise that the Maya Train would allow users to “travel throughout the southeast,” the morning runs from the Chetumal station were canceled today for reasons that remain officially unknown.

No authority has yet provided an official statement, and passengers remain in the carriages at the Chetumal station, waiting to continue their journey to Escárcega, Campeche.

According to preliminary information, the train departed from this station to conclude its route in Palenque, passing through the stops at Nicolás Bravo, the Escárcega Station, and the stops in Triunfo Balancán in Tabasco, but it suspended the journey less than three kilometers later.

The driver reported an object on the track and immediately ordered a return to Chetumal to avoid any incident like the one that occurred with the Isthmus Train in Oaxaca. Additionally, the departure to Cancún was temporarily canceled.

Passengers remain at the Chetumal station. Among them, it was rumored that the object appeared to be a body on the track. Although personnel reported an apparent attempted cable theft, due to cuts in several sections.

Although the official version from the company managing the Maya Train was sought, secrecy on the matter remains for now. (Agencia SIM)
