Cancún, Mexico — The Maya Train is investing 24,947 million pesos in the construction of terminals for loading and unloading cargo from industry, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses operating in Cancún, Chetumal, Palenque, Umán, and Puerto Progreso.

With the construction of the Multimodal Terminals in Cancún, Chetumal, Puerto Progreso, and Palenque, as well as the Poxilá Cargo Distribution Center, there will be access to national and international markets for goods from industry, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses operating in the Yucatán Peninsula.

Due to increased demand for cargo transportation driven by tourism and commerce growth in the Yucatán Peninsula, there is a need to resume cargo transportation to have infrastructure that allows for transporting, moving, and working with goods, supplies, and fuels, the company considers.

Additionally, the terminals and distribution center will reduce delivery times for goods, as well as improve connectivity and logistics for productive and tourist areas in Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo, says the Maya Train company.

Currently, facilities are being built for loading and unloading products, goods, and raw materials (except hazardous substances) for their storage, handling, and rail transportation in the Yucatán Peninsula, states the firm controlled by the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).

According to the Maya Train, the Cancún Multimodal Terminal costs 7,777 million pesos; 4,910 million pesos are being invested in the Palenque Multimodal Exchange Terminal; 4,935 million pesos are allocated to the Progreso Multimodal Terminal; 3,099 million pesos are spent on the Chetumal Multimodal Terminal; and 4,225 million pesos are valued for the Poxilá Cargo Distribution Center.
