Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man sustained severe burns covering 70% of his body after suffering an electrical shock while painting a building in the Selva Maya neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. The incident occurred when the victim’s paint roller accidentally made contact with high-voltage power lines.
Details of the Accident
According to reports, the man was working atop a ladder when the electrical discharge struck him, causing him to fall approximately two meters to the ground. Emergency responders, including municipal police, firefighters, Red Cross paramedics, and Civil Protection personnel, arrived at the scene.
Medical personnel determined the victim had sustained extensive burns and transported him to Playa del Carmen General Hospital, where he remains under medical care.
Separate Hit-and-Run Incident Leaves Motorcyclist Dead
In an unrelated incident on the afternoon of Sunday, July 13, a motorcyclist was struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene in the Palmas 2 subdivision. Witnesses reported the motorcyclist was thrown onto a median, striking trees and rocks, and was presumed dead on impact.
Authorities have not confirmed the make of the suspect’s vehicle, though residents described it as a white Aveo or Mazda. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage to locate the driver.
Traffic police, municipal officers, and Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office personnel secured the scene, while forensic teams transported the victim’s body for an autopsy.
