Cancún, Quintana Roo — A man has been sentenced to five years in prison for failing to pay court-ordered child support for his three minor children, the State Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday.
David Roa Quintanar was convicted of violating family obligations in Benito Juárez, the municipality that includes Cancún. The case was prosecuted by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Against Women and Gender-Related Offenses, which presented evidence before a judge.
Prosecutors said that after separating from the children’s mother, Roa agreed to pay a monthly child support allowance of 32,000 pesos starting in October 2019. He did not make full payments, providing only partial deposits instead.
That failure created an accumulated debt of 1,013,950 pesos covering the period through February 2024, according to authorities.
The judge sentenced Roa to five years in prison and ordered him to pay 1,013,950 pesos as restitution for material damages.
