Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The city council unanimously approved a package of tax discounts and incentives tied to the 2026 Buen Fin shopping weekend, a program aimed at helping residents settle their municipal obligations and easing household finances.
The “Buen Fin 2026 Discount Marathon” will run from September 7 through November 30 and includes subsidies, discounts and fiscal stimulus for taxpayers who regularize their municipal debts. Officials said the goal is to boost revenue collection while providing economic relief to families.
The vote took place during the council’s 48th regular session, led by councilwoman María de los Milagros Álvarez Vidal on behalf of Mayor Estefanía Mercado. In a separate measure, the council approved the allocation of surplus revenues from 2025 and earlier fiscal years, along with 2026 financial proceeds.
Those funds will first be used to cover outstanding contractual obligations. Any remainder will go into a reserve fund to protect against possible drops in freely available income in future years, according to the measure. The reserve will be kept in a dedicated bank account in compliance with the Fiscal Discipline Law, and the municipal treasury will carry out the necessary steps to implement the decision.
