20-Year Sentence for Cancún Femicide Case

Cancún, Mexico — The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) secured a 20-year prison sentence against Ricardo Rogelio Robles Anzures, found guilty of femicide committed in 2022 in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

After analyzing the evidence presented by the Specialized Prosecution Unit for Trials, the Oral Trial Judge determined the criminal responsibility of the accused against a victim whose identity remains confidential.

According to the criminal case, the events occurred during the early hours of August 9, 2022, inside a residence located in Supermanzana 252, where the now-sentenced individual lived with the victim, who was his romantic partner.

The investigation established that, stemming from conflicts related to domestic violence and economic problems, Robles Anzures repeatedly assaulted the woman until causing her death by strangulation. Subsequently, he covered the body with a blanket and pillows, leaving it inside the home.

In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a fine of 115,464 pesos on the convicted individual, as well as payment of 802,516 pesos for material and moral damages. (With information from the State Attorney General’s Office)
