Man Nearly Lynched for Killing Dog in Cancún

A group of people gathered on a street at night, with police officers overseeing the scene. The atmosphere is tense as various individuals engage in conversation while emergency lights illuminate the surroundings.

Cancún — A man was detained after killing a dog in front of his children on Monday night at a residence in Cancún's Region 227. Witnesses subsequently detained the man, who was nearly lynched.

State police officers arrived at the scene on Avenida Río Hondo, between 106th and 108th streets, where they confirmed that the man, who was apparently intoxicated, had killed a small dog.

Witnesses stated that the man threw the dog against the floor several times, which caused the animal to lose its life, apparently from trauma.

Following these statements, the police detained the man and also requested the intervention of authorities from Bienestar Animal, as well as the State Attorney General's Office.

Neighbors in the area stated that this was not the first time this man had aggressed against animals, though on this night, tired of his actions, they decided to detain him to request support from authorities via the 911 emergency number.

Yamili Góngora, Director of Bienestar Animal, explained that they currently have 10 ongoing investigation case files with the State Attorney General's Office for animal maltreatment, plus the one that will be initiated for this case.

Furthermore, the official made a call to citizens to report any case of animal cruelty.

Just this past Saturday, another aggression against a pet was registered in Region 237, where a man violated and killed a small female dog, which mobilized authorities and led to the capture of the suspect, as well as the rescue of three animals.
