Police officers cordon off a street in Leona Vicario, Puerto Morelos, after a fatal shooting

Leona Vicario, Quintana Roo — A man known by the nickname “El Sonrics” was shot dead this morning just meters from his home in the village of Leona Vicario, Puerto Morelos, in an attack that alarmed local residents.

The shooting occurred on a street known as “Del Dentista,” near a community dome and the Alfa y Omega church, a busy area for local residents.

According to initial reports, the victim, identified by neighbors as “El Sonrics,” was walking when he was intercepted by two individuals on a motorcycle. Without exchanging words, the assailants opened fire on him multiple times, leaving him lying on the ground.

Witnesses said they heard gunshots and came out of their homes to find the man seriously injured in a pool of blood, causing panic and concern among those present.

Paramedics from a local medical dispensary arrived at the scene to provide aid, but after assessing him, they confirmed he had no vital signs.

Unofficially, it emerged that the victim was the son of a woman known in the area for selling pozol, a traditional corn drink, and that he may have been linked to illicit activities, though authorities have not confirmed this.

Municipal police officers cordoned off the area to preserve the crime scene, while personnel from the State Prosecutor’s Office carried out the necessary procedures and removed the body.

No arrests have been reported so far, and authorities are continuing their investigation to find those responsible for the attack, which highlights ongoing violence in this village in the Puerto Morelos municipality.
