Kidnapped Man Found in Puerto Morelos Dies After Attack

Cancún, Mexico — A young man who was kidnapped in Cancún was found hours later in Puerto Morelos, bound and suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite being transported alive to a hospital, he died shortly after arrival.

The victim, identified as 26-year-old Edson Armando Figueroa, was located in a green area on an unpaved road in Puerto Morelos. He had sustained a gunshot wound and had both his hands and feet tied when he was discovered.

According to reports, the discovery was made in the early hours of Monday morning after a neighbor heard cries for help and immediately called the 911 emergency number to request assistance. Municipal Police officers from Puerto Morelos arrived at the scene shortly thereafter.

The officers confirmed that the young man was dressed in a white sports t-shirt, brown shorts, and black-and-white sneakers. He was bound at the feet and hands and was covered in blood, clearly indicating he was the victim of a violent crime.

After being evaluated by paramedics, he was transported back to Cancún and admitted to the General Hospital "Jesús Kumate Rodríguez." Upon being admitted to the medical facility, the young man reported that he had been kidnapped by several individuals while he was in the Tierra Maya neighborhood of Cancún. He stated that three armed men had beaten him and then shot him.

Hours later, the hospital staff reported his death. Authorities from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office were notified to begin an investigation into the case, which is being treated as a kidnapping and homicide.

Forensic experts from the Medical Examiner's Service later arrived to transport the body to the morgue, where a legally required autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death of the 26-year-old.

This incident represents another violent crime in Cancún resulting in a fatality. The authorities' investigation will need to determine the motives behind the kidnapping and why the young man was assaulted and killed after reporting he was taken from the Tierra Maya area.
