TULUM, Quintana Roo — A man died early Saturday after falling from a third-floor balcony at a residential complex in Aldea Zama, one of Tulum’s best-known residential and tourist developments.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. on July 11, 2026, at the Bungalows Luxury Tulum complex, specifically in Tower B. According to preliminary reports, the man had allegedly been drinking alcohol while sitting on the railing of a balcony when he lost his balance and fell.

The victim reportedly struck a wooden structure at the rear of the building and suffered serious injuries. Paramedics responded to the scene, provided first aid and transported him alive to the IMSS-Bienestar Hospital in Tulum, where he died minutes after being admitted.

The man’s identity and nationality had not been publicly released in the initial reports reviewed.

The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office was placed in charge of investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. At this stage, available reporting describes the case as an apparent accidental fall, but authorities are responsible for determining whether any other factors contributed to the incident.

The death is not the first fatal fall reported in Aldea Zama in recent years. In December 2024, another man died after falling from the fourth floor of a building in the same general development area. In that earlier case, authorities initially did not disclose whether the victim was a tourist, resident or worker, and the State Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into the circumstances.

Aldea Zama is a large residential and vacation-rental district located between central Tulum and the hotel zone, with numerous condominium buildings, apartments, villas and short-term rentals. The area has grown substantially alongside Tulum’s broader tourism and real estate expansion.

For now, authorities have not publicly announced any criminal findings in connection with Saturday’s death. The investigation remains focused on establishing exactly how the fall occurred and confirming the sequence of events leading up to it.
