Akumal, Quintana Roo — A major emergency response unfolded in Akumal on Thursday night after a man climbed power poles at a substation operated by CFE (Federal Electricity Commission), alarming residents and prompting a preventive operation to avert greater risks.
The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. when residents called emergency services to report an individual atop the electrical structure, shouting words that were unclear to witnesses below. Onlookers said the man remained in an elevated position on the poles, posing a significant danger due to the high-voltage nature of the installations.
In response, civil protection units, municipal police, and first responders arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Upon arrival, they cordoned off the perimeter to keep bystanders away and reduce risks to the individual and others.
Authorities activated security protocols and began persuasion tactics to encourage the man to come down voluntarily. Meanwhile, they maintained surveillance in the area to prevent any incidents related to the high-tension power lines. The reasons for the man’s actions remain unknown.
