Tulum, Quintana Roo — A man faces formal charges for the alleged rape of a minor in Tulum, with authorities also investigating risks to three other children found in extreme neglect, the State Prosecutor’s Office announced.
Prosecutors presented evidence to a judge, securing the indictment of Emeterio “N” for his suspected involvement in the rape of a young girl. Officials also reported he endangered the lives and health of three other minors.
Investigations revealed the victims, aged 4, 11, and 14, lived in conditions of severe abandonment following their mother’s death and their father’s absence due to work outside the home.
The 4-year-old girl showed physical signs of possible assault after being in the suspect’s care. Relatives intervened upon noticing the lack of parental attention and took her to a hospital in Chetumal, where medical staff confirmed her critical condition from severe dehydration and life-threatening complications.
The girl is now stable and receiving specialized care. Her siblings are under the protection of maternal relatives with assistance from the DIF family services agency in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
The judge ordered Emeterio “N” held in preventive detention for up to two years or until the judicial process concludes.
